The magnetic pick-up (MPU) is the communication link between the engine and the
electronic controller. The MPU is installed next to the drive shaft gear made of a
material which reacts to a magnetic field. As the fly-wheel rotates it interrupts the
MPU’s magnetic field and produces an AC signal corresponding to the engine speed.
